About the band
Formed in 2005, The JazzHappensBand is a traditional Dixieland jazz band operating out of Cortland, New York with a repertoire of Dixie, blues, and quick stepping jazz. This talented group of local musicians has Jeff Dovi on trumpet, Mike Poole on trombone, Nick Pauldine on clarinet, Jim Overhiser on tuba, Robbert van Renesse on banjo, Steve Wilson on piano, and David Alexander on drums. The JazzHappensBand has entertained at a variety of locations, including the Lime Hollow Nature Center for Environment and Culture, Cortland Youth Bureau's music series in Veterans' Park, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the East End Community Center, the Ithaca Fest in Ithaca, NY, the Homer Concert Series, the Cortland Wine and Arts Fest, the first annual Fall Creek Porchfest in Ithaca, NY, as well as several local establishments and private functions. We are available to perform at any venue in the Central New York area.
As leader Jeff Dovi explains: "I like to keep the music as true to a Dixie beat as possible, but we do throw in some rhythm and blues and some specialty numbers for the entertainment value they offer. I really think that Dixieland music is the happiest, toe-tapping and good-times music going; tunes that you can go home whistling!"
